Yesco

Engineer (Structural Design)
Located in Las Vegas, Nevada YESCO is a privately owned sign company established in 1920, and is a top leader in the sign industry. YESCO is a professional, friendly, family oriented company that provides customers with signs and services of the highest quality with the greatest possible value, and provides good jobs, workings conditions and benefits for our employees. We are seeking good, qualified, enthusiastic individuals who are self-driven and self-motivated and who would love to work for us in an uplifting and enjoyable environment.

We are seeking an Engineer or recent Engineering Graduate to join our team. If you’re looking to apply your exceptional engineering knowledge with us, this is a perfect opportunity for you, and we welcome your interest.

GENERAL PURPOSE

To provide engineering and drawings for products/structures that are safe, economical, profitable and functioning which meet the applicable codes designated by the municipality where the work is being done. These designs must ensure that the structures can be built, serviced and installed with minimal difficulty.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Obtains required information prior to design either directly or by clearly defined requests for existing conditions including site conditions, existing structural information and local permitting agency requirements such as specialized wind loads, frost depth and formats for submissions.
• Performs sign structure calculations and drawings (concrete footing design, reinforcing, steel support, steel framework, masonry and concrete design).
• Attends job assessments to help clarify the projects scope of work, schedule and method of production/installation
• Value Engineering – makes sure the amount of material used and required amount of hours to build these structures is minimized while keeping the structure safe and compliant with building codes
• Communicates with account executives, project managers and shop personnel prior, during and after engineering design has been completed
• Communicates with building engineers, geotechnical engineers, architects, owners/customers, especially on larger and more complex projects

MARGINAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Communicates with city plan checkers
• Produces manuals, guidelines and calculation spreadsheets
• Has developed a program to develop comprehensive shop drawings to help clarify, eliminate costly rework and speed up production
• Inspects the final product in the shop and in the field after installation.
Performs other functions as necessary or assigned

NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS
Interacts with YESCO clients, sales people, project and production managers and management
Maintains contact with sales executives to help them understand possible issues and methods to solve them, ability to convey sometimes complicated engineering concepts so they can communicate with customers in clear terms which often helps finalize the sale.

Contact with estimators requires the same ability to convey the design intent and help them establish accurate pricing. On more complicated projects, it is helpful to take the leadership role and guide the project from survey to installation. Communication and interaction skills are absolutely necessary when talking to other engineers and architects to persuade them to share their drawings when they normally wouldn’t, which in turn saves us time and money or communicating our need for specific members in certain places on the building so we can easily mount or signage. An example of a key customer interaction is that a customer (building owner) calls and wonders what would happen to the structure if they raised the sign, changed some components, etc. Other engineers would typically want to know what kind of load our signage would add to their building. They always appreciate a quick answer, which in turn helps secure the contract or get priority treatment when bids are reviewed and awarded.

TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

A Bachelor’s degree in civil, structural or mechanical Engineering, or any combination of education, experience, and training which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
